Our Lady Academy (OLA) recently opened its doors to more than 120 enthusiastic 5th and 6th grade girls for a day filled with exciting activities and the chance to experience a taste of life at OLA. The Spend the Day at OLA event provided young girls with an opportunity to explore vibrant Crescent life.
Here's a glimpse of the incredible day these young learners had:
Interactive Robotics Demonstration: The girls got a firsthand look at the fascinating world of robotics. This interactive demonstration showcased the school's commitment to embracing technology and innovation, inspiring the future female STEM leaders.
Owl Pellets Science Experiment: This science experiment involving owl pellets provided a hands-on way to study the diet and feeding habits of owls. Owl pellets are regurgitated masses of indigestible materials, such as bones, fur, and feathers, which owls cannot digest after consuming prey. By carefully dissecting the pellets, the students identified the remains of small animals, such as rodents, birds, and insects, and learned about the owl’s role in the ecosystem.
Campus Tour: OLA's picturesque campus, located on the beach and nestled in the heart of Bay St. Louis, provided a perfect backdrop for a tour of the school. Students could explore the school's recently renovated facilities and learn about the many resources available to them.
Basketball Drills: Drills led by OLA varsity players provided an opportunity for the aspiring athletes to learn techniques and strategies that focused on fundamentals like dribbling, shooting, and passing. The girls gained insight into the intensity and discipline required of Crescent athletes.
Dance Team Performance: The award-winning OLA dance team shared their talents by teaching the girls a dance routine. After some practice, the young participants had the opportunity to perform the dance at a school pep rally!
Art Project Creation: Inside of the colorful art room, the girls embraced their artistic sides by creating unique art projects to take home as mementos of their memorable day.
The heartwarming day at OLA didn't stop at exciting activities and inspiring experiences; it also embraced moments of reflection and spirituality. After the welcome rally, the girls gathered for a special prayer service, guided by OLA's dedicated student campus ministers. The service took place in the beautiful and historic Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church, giving the students a taste of the rich Catholic tradition at OLA.
At the end of the day, the girls joined the school in a pep rally. During the pep rally, the 5th and 6th grade girls challenged the seniors and juniors in a game of tug of war and came out victorious! The grand finale of the 'Spend the Day at OLA' event was a spirited run-through while the whole school cheered on the girls, celebrating the young visitors.
This day at OLA was not only educational but also an unforgettable experience filled with laughter, learning, and fun. It provided these young girls with a glimpse into Crescent life and the numerous opportunities available at OLA.
But the excitement doesn't stop there! OLA extends a warm invitation to all parents to attend their Open House on November 18th. This event will provide parents with an opportunity to experience firsthand what OLA has to offer and see how the school can empower their daughters with knowledge, skills, and a supportive community.
Our Lady Academy continues to be a place of excellence, nurturing young minds and providing them with a vibrant environment to grow and learn. 'Spend the Day at OLA' is just one of the many ways OLA opens its doors to inspire and educate the female leaders of tomorrow.
